Extension of Brzozowski's derivation calculus of rational expressions to series over the free partially commutative monoids

چکیده
We introduce an extension of the derivatives of rational expressions to expressions denoting formal power series over partially commuting variables. The expressions are purely noncommutative, however they denote partially commuting power series. The derivations (which are so-called φ-derivations) are shown to satisfy the commutation relations. Our main result states that for every so-called rigid rational expression, there exists a stable finitely generated submodule containing it. Moreover, this submodule is generated by what we call Words, that is by products of letters and of pure stars. Consequently this submodule is free and it follows that every rigid rational expression represents a recognizable series in K 〈〈A/C〉〉. This generalizes the previously known property where the star was restricted to mono-alphabetic and connected series. c © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Partially Commutative Inverse Monoids
Free partially commutative inverse monoids are investigated. Analogously to free partially commutative monoids (trace monoids), free partially commutative inverse monoids are the quotients of free inverse monoids modulo a partially defined commutation relation on the generators. A quasi linear time algorithm for the word problem is presented, more precisely, we give an O(n log(n)) algorithm for...
متن کاملOn Recognizable Languages in Divisibility Monoids
Kleene’s theorem on recognizable languages in free monoids is considered to be of eminent importance in theoretical computer science. It has been generalized into various directions, including trace and rational monoids. Here, we investigate divisibility monoids which are defined by and capture algebraic properties sufficient to obtain a characterization of the recognizable languages by certain...
متن کاملRecent Results in the Theory of Rational Sets
This paper presents a survey of recent results in the theory of rational sets in arbitrary monoids. Main topics considered here are : the so-called Kleene monoids (i.e. monoids where Kleene's theorem holds), rational functions and relations, rational sets in partially commutative monoids, and rational sets in free groups.
متن کاملSolvability of Equations in Free Partially Commutative Groups Is Decidable
Trace monoids are well-studied objects in computer science where they serve as a basic algebraic tool for analyzing concurrent systems. The question whether the existential theory of trace equations is decidable has been solved positively in 1996. Free partially commutative groups (graph groups) generalize trace monoids in the sense that every element has an inverse. In this paper we show that ...
متن کاملEfficient Solution to Some Problems in Free Partially Commutative Monoids
In theoretical computer science, and, in particular, in automata and formal language theory, questions arise concerning words and sets of words in free monoids. Results and techniques from the study of the combinatorial algebra of the free monoid have provided an “algebraic” basis for dealing with many of these questions. In recent years there has been increasing interest in properties of words...
